Fun for a cause: White Ribbon Family Day comes to Gate Pā

10 November 2025

Families are invited to come together for a day of fun, music and community spirit at the White Ribbon Family Day, Anzac Park, Gate Pā, on Saturday November 22.

Family Works has been joined by more than 20 local community and government organisations in hosting the free event. The Family Day combines entertainment with a powerful message – the need to end violence towards women and children – and promote healthy, respectful relationships.

From 10am to 2pm families can enjoy live music, a sizzling BBQ, face painting, henna tattoos, bouncy castle, lucky dip and a treasure hunt for kids. The event will close with a kapa haka performance by Te Ara o Tawhaki o te Kapa Haka of Turning Point Trust – Te Taiope Huringanui.

“White Ribbon Day is a vital reminder that family violence affects people from all walks of life. It is important that organisations work together to prevent family violence and strengthen communities,” says Family Works Bay of Plenty Area Manager Julie Peake.

“By coming together as a community, we can raise awareness and show support for those affected by violence”.

“Thank you to all the organisations in the Tauranga-Moana Abuse Prevention network who have been quick to rally to support what promises to be a great day out for all the family, including Tautoko Tane, Tauranga Living Without Violence, Tauranga Women’s Refuge and Gate Pā Community Trust”.

Family violence continues to have a devastating impact on individuals, families and communities from psychological and physical harm to long-term effects on children and the wider economy. White Ribbon Day is an opportunity to replace silence with action, and fear with hope.

In case of wet weather, the event will be postponed to Saturday, November 29.
